Beyond innocence is magazine about a boy named Bart who grew up using drugs at a young age. He moved in my home for a few months where I photographed him on numerous occasions. From some of the photos he was aware that I made them, from others he didn’t know.
Beyond Innocence – Mind over matter
Whenever I spoke with him, and whenever I tried to motivate him, he often spoke those words. Sometimes with a tear, often with a smile. I can only hope one day, he will come true. And be proud of himself and his so often used words : “Mind over matter”.
For me Beyond Innocence is about the moment when using drugs loses it’s innocence. Young people often start using drugs, while their parents don’t know or expect their children do. But young people are still looking for their limits and boundaries, often crossing them to find them. Beyond Innocence is a documentary portrait of a boy who lost grip of the use of drugs.
